Our Community

The New Hartford Land Trust (NHLT) was established in late 1973 as an all-volunteer, private, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to promoting the permanent preservation and protection of significant farmland, forest, and other open space and natural resources, as well as unique scenic, natural, and historic sites in New Hartford, Connecticut.

The New Hartford Fire Department, located on Greenwoods Road in New Hartford, CT, consists of two stations, five fire apparatus, and a group of dedicated firefighters. The New Hartford Volunteer Ambulance Association (NHVA), located in New Hartford, CT, was formed in 1968. The NHVA provides pre-hospital emergency medical care to New Hartford, Barkhamsted and West Hartland.

The Mission Statement of the New Hartford Historical Society is to provide research services and to help preserve, interpret, and celebrate the history of New Hartford, CT. To encourage historical education, exploration, appreciation and the thoughtful utilization of our past to add value to New Hartford’s diverse community.

The Licia & Mason Beekley Community Library is located in the Town of New Hartford, Connecticut. We are in Litchfield County, approximately 20 miles northwest of Hartford, with a population of over 6,700. The town has a rich and diverse history and boasts a number of recreational attractions. .

The Bakerville Library, located in the historical Bakerville section of New Hartford, CT, was started in 1949 with a "little red wagon." Barbara Yedlin, daughter of the late Ralph and Nelia Gardner White, wanted a neighborhood library. Mrs. Yedlin took her son's wagon and canvassed her neighbors for books. Eventually 500 books were donated, stored and distributed from the basement of her home.

Northwestern Regional is a comprehensive public Middle School-High School serving the total Regional Community including the towns of New Hartford, CT, Barkhamsted, Norfolk, and Colebrook.

New Hartford Elementary School is one of three New Hartford, CT Public Schools whose mission is to partner with families and the community in order to inspire and prepare all children to become independent and enthusiastic learners who achieve excellence by providing a challenging and exemplary education program that is differentiated, inclusive, and dynamic.
