About Summit Adaptive Sports
Summit Adaptive Sports, is a 501c3 non-profit headquartered in New Hartford, CT at Ski Sundown. We are a leader in Connecticut in providing access and instruction in outdoor sports including alpine skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and disc golf to individuals with acquired or developmental disabilities. Maintaining a welcoming environment for athletes, families and volunteers that fosters camaraderie, teamwork and the human spirit through dignity and respect for all is our top priority.
Over the last two seasons we provided over 600 adaptive lessons each year to over 160 athletes. Starting in 2023, Summit now provides year round programming to reach as many participants as possible. Many of our volunteers have been coaching for over 10 years and our reputation for offering expert instruction from highly trained staff has become well known. Lesson categories include hearing and visual impairments or blind; all types of developmental disabilities; three and four track for mobility impairments, and sit, mono, and bi-skiing. Lessons are taken by advance reservation and are available on weekends and most weekdays during the ski season. In the spring, summer and fall, Summit offers programs in kayaking, hiking, mountain biking and disc golf at various locations in northwestern Connecticut. Our adaptive equipment includes specially outfitted kayaks and paddle board, GRIT hiking chairs, and adaptive mountain bikes. The mission of Summit Adaptive Sports, Inc. is to foster a healthy lifestyle through outdoor sports for individuals with disabilities in a fun, accessible and inclusive environment.
