DNA, Crime, and Ethics: Exploring the Role of Genetics in Law Enforcement
The collection and analysis of DNA has become a powerful tool in solving crimes and enhancing public safety. But as genetic technologies advance, so do the ethical and legal challenges that come with their use. How can we, as a society, embrace these innovations while ensuring privacy, consent, and justice remain at the forefront?

Join us at the Beekley Library for an engaging evening with Gillian McNeil, a genetics specialist and public engagement associate with the Personal Genetics Education & Dialogue (PGED) program at Harvard Medical School. Gillian will lead a thought-provoking discussion on the intersection of DNA, criminal justice, and policy—offering insight into how we can shape responsible frameworks for the future.

Gillian develops educational tools used by teachers nationwide and brings genetics education to communities across New England. With degrees in molecular biology and healthcare genetics from UConn, she brings both scientific expertise and a passion for ethical science communication to her work.
