Beekley Book Club – Rites of Passage

Set sail with us this summer as we dive into a powerful and darkly compelling tale of life at sea. In Rites of Passage by William Golding, young Edmund Talbot chronicles his voyage to Australia in the early 19th century, writing with wit and sharp observation to entertain his godfather back home in England. But as tensions rise aboard the aging warship, the arrival of the awkward and overly pious Reverend Colley sparks a disturbing turn of events—one that reveals the cruel dynamics of shame, power, and isolation in the claustrophobic world below deck.
